Word of Wisdom No. 3: Clean your tongue
Many people tend to think that the brushing process involves the teeth and in most cases ignore brushing the tongue. A tongue scrapper is more effective than a tooth brush in this tongue cleaning process. The two major cleaning methods that can be used includes, using a scrapper, spoon and lastly using a tooth brush. However children in most cases find it yucky and difficult to brush the tongue, in such a case it is best to introduce the child to tongue brushing using a spoon. Many children prefer tongue scrapping to tongue brushing.
Many people tend to ask the reason behind brushing of the tongue, the tongue accounts for half of the germs that are found in the mouth. In addition to that, the germs are responsible for the foul smell, brushing or scrapping of the tongue thus helps in eliminating this foul smell. A tooth brush is not ideal for this process since hard scrubbing may cause the tongue to bleed which is in most cases very painful.
After taking any meal, a layer of food particles accumulates on the tongue, the moist condition of the tongue offers a conducive atmosphere for breeding of more germs. The tongue also turns acidic causing a discomfort in the mouth. In addition to bacteria causing a foul smell, they are also responsible for causing other dental diseases such as dental carries and tooth decay.
Unlike the teeth, the tongue cannot be cleaned by gaggling, thus calling for immediate brushing of the teeth after any given meal. Using a scrapper tends to work well for many people than using a tooth brush, after washing the tongue one should gaggle some mouth wash to kill all the germs that may still be trapped in the tongue to avoid cases of mouth infection.
